about

The sixth Purple Gherkins album
Dedicated to Chong. R.I.P.

“The Purple Gherkins’ sixth effort in the studio is what you may call a novella. Too short to be a novel, too long for a short story but it says all it needs to say and more in that short timescale. All the tracks featured on it tell their own story and have an esteemed mixture of sounds and soundscapes. One may feel that, although The Purple Gherkins have finally found their sound, they have lost something with the lack of experimentation. However, upon listening they would then realise that the mixture of sounds and textures is more than experimental and certainly creative. This is truly a mature piece of work from a band that only seems to improve with each release. I rate -2/10”

This album took around 25 hours to create.

Quotes from Bella:
On the album cover -
“The artwork is really an overarching metaphor for life. The fact that it’s written on a carpet is representative of the mundanity of everyday life, though the colour is unusual so that denotes some form of irregularity to be found in the subjectivity of human experience. Furthermore, carpet is always underfoot, clearly acting as a comparative tool with the oppression of the proletariat by the bourgeoisie, and is in turn a statement to incite the viewer to unshackle themselves from the limitations impressed upon them by corrupt class systems within modern society. Moreover, the typography of the piece conveys an improvised, almost impulsive undertone, giving the text a subtly urgent quality. Also the fact that the letters are inscribed upon the carpet could be implied to be an attempt at permanence and a lasting score upon the world, though the message can easily be wiped away and proves to be a true portrayal of the futility of a human effort and the transience of all human creation. A true masterpiece.”
On ‘Time’ –
“O DAYUM SON THAT IS SMOOTH”
“I can imagine myself listening to this driving through a city with my head out the window”
On ‘Reaction’ –
“This is like Foals and Tame Impala and something niche out of the 70s had an insanely hot love child who surpassed all expectations of hotness in light of their genetics. That was great”
On ‘Experience’ –
“Dat bass on experience tho wow”
On PG6 as a whole –
“Omfg. How? Legit how do you go from that god awful rendition of bohemian rhapsody to THAT? Honestly after that I just feel fucken buzzed.”
