about

"The Purple Gherkins 5th studio release marks a huge shift in direction. For the first time since their debut, the album isn't holiday themed. It's also far more daring and experimental than any other of their previous works, including tracks from three seconds in length to half an hour. The sheer size of the album is incredible, its ambition and its scope truly makes this record something to behold. It's almost intimidatingly long and menacing in its inconsistency. Last but not least, the album cover is different. For the first time in the history of The Purple Gherkins, a purple gherkin is absent from the artwork. Instead, we are treated to a delightful image of one of the band members. What does this mean? Certainly, the band wants us to not only hear this change in direction but see it too. However, what this may truly signify is identity; and how the band's sound has changed drastically and will continue to change in the albums to come. The Purple Gherkins are not making this progression easy - they continue to push the boundaries of not only music, but sound itself. But, if one were to trudge through this lengthy masterpiece, the experience may change you. You may seem altered, but for the better. This album is a reflection, a revolution, a re-invention. So, on to the ultimate question: is the album or this change of direction truly worth it? Absolutely not. Happy April Fool's Day scrubs, I rate 5/7."

The majority of this album was recorded in around 14 hours or so. Mixing and more tracking took a few more hours across two days.

Quotes from Bella who somehow listened to this whole album:
"[It's a] fucking odyssey"
"[I feel] tired... drained... it's gold"
"I've seen into the darkest reaches of your souls and witnessed the folly and sin possible at the hands of man"
"I feel like I know [Dan] and Reuben in a new way"
"It's actually got some good songs on it, which I was surprised about"
"The commentary is monumental and it's amazing"
"...and overall I've learned that no matter how much musical talent you have (like you two are both v talented individuals), you still have the ability to make a monstrosity like your fucking djents"
"I would listen to all your stuff but I don't have a death-wish"
